China Hopes 2026 Will be A ‘Landmark Year’ For Relationship With US 

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi told reporters on the sidelines of an annual meeting of China’s ceremonial legislature that 2026 is a “big year” for the relationship between his country and the United States. He said that while there are many differences, “the two heads of state have personally maintained good exchanges at the highest level,” providing a level of “strategic guarantee” for the bilateral relationship.

Nobel Peace Prize Winner on Nuclear War, Policy

On Tuesday, March 10, Nobel Peace Prize winner Ira Helfand, former president of the International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War, sat down for a Q&A with a journalist from The Daily Texan to speak about the growing risks of nuclear war. Helfand emphasized the importance for younger generations to learn about the dangers associated with nuclear weapons and urged the global nuclear powers to work towards the complete elimination of this technology. 

Ed Miliband: New Nuclear Regulations ‘Will Boost Clean Energy Security’

British Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero Ed Miliband announced that his department will implement the 47 recommendations made by the UK’s nuclear regulatory taskforce by the end of 2027 in order “to speed up nuclear delivery” across the country. The government also seeks to quadruple the intake of nuclear PhD students with more than 500 doctoral students being trained over the next four annual intakes to “unlock innovation” in the sector.

Middle East Energy Shock Revives Interest in Nuclear Power

Boris Schucht, chief executive of Urenco, which is part-owned by the UK and Dutch governments, told the Financial Times a “nuclear renaissance” was already under way and would accelerate due to the shock of the oil and gas supply shortages caused by closure of the Strait of Hormuz. He said the company had compiled a record $21.3bn order book for its uranium and fuel products.
