Putin offers Trump one-year extension to nuclear weapons treaty
On Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin offered to voluntarily maintain the New START limits of deployed strategic nuclear warheads at 1,550 for an additional year if President Trump agrees to do the same. New START, the sole remaining bilateral treaty capping the nuclear arsenals of the United States and Russia, is currently set to expire in February 2026.
South Korean president pushes for a freeze to North’s nuclear program
In an interview with the BBC, South Korean President Lee Jae Myung said he would support a deal between President Trump and North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un to freeze the North’s nuclear program at current levels rather than immediate “denuclearization.”
Putin: New nuclear financing models need to be developed
Speaking on the first day of World Atomic Week in Moscow, Russia’s President Vladimir Putin stated that he sees peaceful nuclear technologies “as the basis for international cooperation and bringing states closer together.” He also said “it is essential to develop modern models for financing the construction of nuclear power plants and to involve international financial institutions and development banks in such projects.”
US and Turkey sign nuclear energy deal
After Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan met with President Donald Trump at the White House on September 25, the Turkish energy minister announced the two countries had signed an agreement to begin cooperation on strategic civil nuclear energy development in Turkey.
Iran and Russia sign $25 billion nuclear plant deal
