Iran’s FM Confirms Contact with US Envoy Witkoff, Denies Talks Under Way

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed direct contact with the United States but insisted this did not constitute negotiations, telling Al Jazeera: “I receive messages from Witkoff directly, as before, and this does not mean that we are in negotiations.” He said trust with the U.S. stands at zero following the joint U.S.-Israeli war on Iran launched in late-February 2026.

North Korea Seeks Nuclear Recognition for U.S. Talks

North Korean premier Kim Jong Un has indicated that any bilateral talks with the United States would require Washington to recognize North Korea as a nuclear-armed state, a position he stated on the last day of the Ninth Party Congress in late February. Kim ruled out any negotiations with South Korea entirely and laid out plans to further expand Pyongyang’s nuclear arsenal, describing nuclear weapons as the “backbone” of North Korea’s deterrence and war strategies. 

New England Governors Announce Commitment to Explore Advanced Nuclear Energy

On March 31st, all six New England governors — from Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont — issued a joint statement committing to explore advanced nuclear energy technologies and continuing to support the region’s existing nuclear facilities. The statement directs state energy agencies to explore financing structures, federal funding opportunities, and regulatory frameworks for new nuclear deployment, and pledges that agencies will compare findings and solicit public input afterward.

UK Awards $396 Million Contract for Flagship Reactor Project at Wylfa

The United Kingdom government body Great British Energy-Nuclear (GBE-N) has awarded a $396 million contract — with a maximum duration of 14 years — to a joint venture between American firm Amentum and British company Cavendish Nuclear to assist in with the deployment of three Rolls-Royce small modular reactors (SMR) at Wylfa in northern Wales.
