Charles Oppenheimer attended and spoke at the Unwasted Forum in Opatija, Croatia this week – the photo is his view of the Adriatic while thinking about the power of international dialogue.  Coming to Croatia as an outsider, and particularly an Oppenheimer, can create an outsized impact.  Most players in the Croatian nuclear industry attended and significant conversation ensued. It’s these catalytic conversations that the Oppenheimer Project has been most excited about at this stage in the game and fomenting more of them is exactly what we want to do. The ultimate goal, of course, is to inspire trilateral cooperation on weapons and energy between the US, China and Russia. We’re on the right track.

Germany Drops Opposition to Nuclear Power, South Korea Poised to Win Big

In an exciting turnaround, Germany has decided to agree with France that Nuclear Energy is, in fact, clean and renewable. This ends over a decade of decline in Germany’s nuclear sector and opens the door to restarting reactors or even investing in new ones. Read more in the Financial Times. Meanwhile, South Korea is Poised to Win Big in the Nuclear Revival having spent huge effort in recent years to develop their industry and a huge ecosystem of suppliers and expertise. Bloomberg reports that South Korean companies will play a role in almost half of all nuclear power developments in years to come. Watch the video here.

State of the Nuclear Energy Industry 2025

Nuclear Energy Institute President and CEO Maria Korsnick presented the organizations annual address this week which you can watch here. The key takeaways were recognition that big tech and AI will continue to be the major players at the table along with a new surge of private capital in the US. Additionally, she emphasized the importance of maintaining federal programs and policies that preserve and expand nuclear generation.
